Elena Benedetti, born in April of 1982, was the first daughter of Italian immigrants Mario and Gabriella Benedetti. The couple had moved to Boston as soon as they turned 18 and were able to make quite a name for themselves. Mario was able to attend college and get a job in finance, while Gabriella opened an Italian restaurant with the help of her siblings.
Elena was joined by a younger brother, Romeo, four years later. The two bickered as any siblings would, but Elena was also very protective of her baby brother. She cut down anyone who tried to bully him, and people learned fast not to mess with either of them.
Their parents were doing well for themselves by the time Romeo was born, so they moved into a nicer, more lavish home, not long after Elena turned five. When it was time for her to start school, they enrolled her (and later her brother) in Catholic school. Elena's quick wit often got her into trouble with the headmaster, but she was an intelligent child, gifted especially in the literary arts, so her misdeeds were usually overlooked.
To make her parents happy, she took many different lessons and classes after school. She hated piano and detested choir, but she really found a passion in her karate and archery classes. Her hand-eye coordination made her a natural, and she eventually focused exclusively on those classes once her parents realized how much their daughter enjoyed them.
Things were going well for Elena. She had a promising future ahead of her and was planning to attend college in the city to become an English teacher. She started working part time at her mother's restaurant shortly after she turned sixteen as a lesson in hard work.
She had been accepted to a few universities upon graduating, and her plans were to attend Columbia University in the fall. That was not to be, as two days after her graduation, she was closing up her mother's restaurant when the call came in. Their home had been broken into, and both of her parents and her brother had been home at the time. Her parents were pronounced death on arrival to the hospital, but her brother stayed in a coma for nearly two months before he succumbed to his brain injuries.
With her brother gone, and her parents too, Elena had nothing left in the city. She packed up her belongings in the night, took her inheritance, and flew to Europe. She eventually worked it out so that she could enroll at Greenwich University, and she decided to pursue a degree in criminology. Her goal was to make sure nothing like this happened to anyone else.
During the summers of her four years overseas, she spent time with her grandparents in Italy and learned everything she could about her parents and the family's history.
After finishing her studies, she reluctantly flew back to the United States to start searching for jobs. It wasn't long before she was called in to interview at Wallach Industries in her hometown of Boston. The CEO himself interviewed her, and it might have been the reason she won the job without more than five minutes of conversation.
She has made herself at home in the city and tries to focus on the good in her life and not what happened in her past, but that can sometimes be difficult for her. She channels her frustrations by participating in roller derby and by sparring with other martial artists. Having a friend in her boss, one who understands loss, has helped her immensely as well. She has let go of a lot of her anger in recent years and is focused enough on her job and small circle of friends to keep it at bay.

The Benedetti family was very well off thanks for old family money, and Elena and her younger brother never wanted for anything. They were not, by any means, spoiled, as their parents believed their children should make their own way in the world. They wanted them to know the value of hard work and were very adamant that they work just as their parents (and grandparents before them) had.
Elena's first job was waiting tables at her mother's Italian restaurant, and this is where she was when her family was killed in 2444.
She took an interest in home security systems after her family was murdered and has earned a reputation as one of the best consultants in the business. She worked her way up in a short amount of time to become the Chief Security Officer for Wallach Industries (though she now balances that job with her duties as the company's Vice President).
Her romantic relationships never last due to the trauma she has endured. She still has trouble letting people in, though a select few have somehow managed to get through the walls she's put up. She thought her failed marriage in early 2015 might close her off for good, but a certain former soldier has wormed his way into her heart (despite ten years of fighting it on her end).
On the flip side, she is generally outgoing and very friendly to anyone she meets, though it takes a great deal more for her to trust those around her. She can count her true friends on one hand.
Spent four years in Europe after her family died. She pursued a degree in criminology the University of Greenwich and spent her summers in Italy meeting extended relatives and learning about her family's history.
Moved back home in 2004 and was almost immediately hired at Wallach Industries in Massachusetts. Because of how quickly she worked her way to the top, nearly everyone believes the rumor that she slept her way there. It used to get to her, but it's something she laughs at now.
The first person she was able to let in after the loss of her family was her boss, Brian Wallach. Their relationship started off very professional but eventually turned into that of a brother and sister. Given their families are gone, they have chosen one another to fill that void.
In what little freetime she has, she keeps her martial arts skills sharp and participates in roller derby with her best friend. Their team is called the Babes of Prey.
She can sometimes have a short temper, especially when it comes to anyone she cares about. This can lead to her acting spontaneously and doing things she might regret later.
